MemoGlove is a tangible mixed-reality experience design that aims to capture and replay haptic memories. Going beyond feeling objects in virtual environment, it emphasizes tangible telepresence, enabling users to touch a beloved object or person even when they are no longer physically present.
Inspired by traditional gloves that isolate the user from the external world while creating a micro-environment within, MemoGlove leverages this enclosed space to establish a connection between the user and their memories in mixed reality. When a person touches an object while wearing MemoGlove, an air pressure sensor captures and records the movement and pressure of the interaction. Later, even without the object present, the user can see the visualization of their touching trace through a headset. When the user’s hand aligns with the recorded trace, the air pressure sensor activates an air pump to inflate and warm up the embedded inflatable heating pad, recreating the sensation of touching the original object.
MemoGlove integrates the headset, physical interaction, and personal memories to co-construct a telepresence reality. It empowers users to build and interact with virtual and physical environments through a tactile experience across time and space.
